Amid scrutiny, Hasan Piker joins Ilhan Omar in Minneapolis to rally progressives
Hosted by state Sen. Omar Fateh, the gathering focused more on criticism of the Trump administration than the controversy that has followed the left-wing streamer. Hasan Piker, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, and state Sen. Omar Fateh attended a livestreamed event in Minneapolis where they criticized the Trump administration and encouraged progressives to organize ahead of the upcoming election. The event, hosted by state Sen Omar Fateg, was largely focused on criticism of the Trump government and praised Minneapolis residents' resistance to federal immigration enforcement. Piker and Omar avoided any major controversies surrounding Piker's involvement in Democratic politics, focusing instead on familiar grievances such as immigration enforcement, economic inequality, and the news media. The discussion also included an assessment of local resistance during Operation Metro Surge, when federal immigration agents conducted an extensive enforcement campaign in the Twin Cities.
