Dalvin Cook, a former FSU football great, has been released by the Minnesota Vikings. He was their second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft after teams were too dumb to select him in the first round. Cook has had 1,000 rushing yards, 43 rushing touchdowns, 170 receptions, 1,399 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns over the past four seasons. There is speculation between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets, who could use a running back like Cook. The Dolphins lost against the Buffalo Bills in the Wildcard playoff game last season without making the playoffs. Cook is originally from Miami and always had monster games when playing down south.

FSU football great Dalvin Cook got released by the Minnesota Vikings Friday. He was their second round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He was their second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft after teams were too dumb to select him in the first round.

The Vikings made the right call back then but fumbled the ball on the second go-round when they could re-sign him.

Minnesota leadership spoke about what Cook has meant to the Viking organization since joining:

I know running backs have a short shelf life in the NFL, and maybe the move is because he’ll be 28 years old later this year, aside from the nine million dollars they’ll save by cutting him. However, Cook has had 1,000 rushing yards, 43 rushing touchdowns, 170 receptions, 1,399 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns over the past four seasons. He has also made the Pro Bowl in his last four seasons.

Where should Dalvin Cook go next?

There seems to be a lot of smoke between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets. Former FSU football teammate Jalen Ramsey is recruiting Cook to Miami.

The Miami Dolphins could use a running back like Dalvin Cook. Their leading rusher last season was Raheem Mostert, who had 891 rushing yards, with three touchdowns and 31 receptions for 202 receiving yards. Mostert is also three years older than Cook.

The Dolphins lost against the Buffalo Bills in the Wildcard playoff game last season. Cook is originally from Miami and always had monster games when playing down south. Could Cook be the piece they need to get over the hump?

Would Cook be a good fit with the New York Jets?

The Jets used a running back by committee last season, with their leading rusher only having 114 carries. They didn’t have a running back with more than 463 rushing yards last season. However, they are also fairly young at the QB position and used three different guys last year without making the playoffs.

Whoever gets Dalvin Cook will get a guy that’s still a very good player that could help them. Here’s to hoping he gets another contract that will continue to take care of him and his family for years to come.
