Twins fall to Guardians in home opener
Twins struggle at the plate on opening day. The Minnesota Twins lost their home opener to the Cleveland Guardians 4-2. The Twins struggled at the plate, striking out 15 times and leaving eight runners in scoring position. The Target Field TV booth was dedicated to former Twins’ play-by-play announcer Dick Bremer for his 40 years of broadcasting. The team's only two runs came from Edouard Julien and Willi Castro. Despite the loss, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli believes they can still find ways to win games. They plan to play against the Guardians on Saturday, April 6th.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KEYC) - The Minnesota Twins fell 4-2 to the Cleveland Guardians in their home opener on Thursday afternoon.
Twins Territory got to watch former Twins’ play-by-play announcer Dick Bremer throw out the first pitch to Twins Hall of Famer Joe Mauer.
Prior to first pitch the Target Field TV booth was renamed and dedicated to Bremer for his 40 years of broadcasting.
Minnesota struggled at the plate today, striking out 15 times and leaving eight runners in scoring position.
“We put ourselves in pretty good spots, obviously with runners in scoring position punch outs do hurt you with runners in scoring position at least giving yourself a shot and putting it in play is probably a better scenario for us. We just have to do a better job we just have to have better at bats flat out” said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli.
“I think it’s just one of those days he had a pretty decent command mixed well, kept guys off balance nothing out of the ordinary I would say from what we saw last year” said Alex Kirilloff.
The Twins did get on the board in the bottom of the 5th inning after an Edouard Julien home run and Willi Castro would score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th inning to make it a two run game, but that would be Minnesota’s only runs.
“We got to go out there and find ways to win ball games and it’s not something we are going to use as an excuse every time we are going to start a season. It was a tough game, but at the same time we can come back and get a win tomorrow so that’s what we are going to try and do” said Carlos Correa.
The Twins play next on Saturday, April 6th against the Cleveland Guardians with first pitch set for 1:10 p.m.
