The Ski Monster Is Expanding From Boston to the Twin Cities, and It's Owner Has a Not-So Secret Trick To His Success

A ski shop that puts skiers first? Imagine that. George Michaelsen did. The Ski Monster, owned by Minnesota skier George Michealsen, is expanding from Boston to the Twin Cities. Michaelsen, a former high-speed rope-tow park rat, used the classic Windows computer game 'Ski Free' as inspiration when he opened his shop in Boston in 2014. The Ski Monster has a large online presence, including a digital store, original media content, podcasts, and explainer videos, reaching hundreds of thousands of skiers nationwide through apps like TikTok and Instagram. Michaelson also uses these videos to convince skiers from far-flung regions to fly to Boston for a boot-fitting and ski-selling experience. He recently moved his family back home to Minnesota and is looking forward to raising his business further.
