Travel numbers from Pierre Regional Airport pick up from February to March; Numbers for Minneapolis flights remain “disappointing”

The Pierre Regional Airport in 2024 saw nearly 100 more enplanements than they were in February, according to City Commissioner Jamie Huizenga. However, he attributed the increase to the foggy weather and increased demand for Minneapolis flights. Mayor Steve Harding encouraged people to use the routes to Minneapolis. Denver Air Connection provides 10 round trip flights each week between Pierre and the Denver International Airport and 2 weekly round trips from Pierre and Minneapolis. If Pierre exceeds its 10,000 boardings number, it is eligible for $1-million from the US Department of Transportation.

As a federal Essential Air Service airport, if Pierre goes over the 10,000 boardings number, it’s eligible for $1-million from the US Department of Transportation.
February 2024 enplanements from the Pierre Regional Airport were about 60 fewer than they were in January.
But, City Commissioner Jamie Huizenga says the foggy weather was partially to blame.
Huizenga says the Minneapolis flight will hopefully see increased traffic.
