Homeland Security to investigate over 30 sites in Minneapolis on Monday for what it calls "rampant fraud"
Homeland Security agents are in Minneapolis on Monday "conducting a massive investigation on childcare and other rampant fraud," DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said. Homeland Security is investigating over 30 sites in Minneapolis for suspected "rampant fraud" and is working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations branch to inspect them. This comes as federal prosecutors estimate that total fraud in Minnesota's Medicaid programs could be up to $9 billion, a figure disputed by Gov. Tim Walz. The HSI branch has historically investigated criminal activity with an international or immigration nexus, such as child exploitation, drug smuggling, identity theft and fraud. The FBI has also increased personnel and investigative resources to the state to investigate fraud.
