FRA picks Twin Cities & Western for up to $22M, nearly double its 2024 selection
Up to $22 million would cover 200 new Twin Cities & Western grain cars and Central Minnesota track work, after an $11.7 million CRISI selection in 2024. The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has selected 200 new grain cars and Central Minnesota track work for up to $22 million in federal funding, nearly doubling the railroad's 2024 selection. The project is part of the FY 2025-2026 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program. The money will also be used to improve short-line infrastructure in Central Minnesota and replace turnouts and switches for heavier new cars. Twin Cities & Western Railroad Company (TC&W) will contribute a 20 percent non-federal share of the project, which falls under the program's statutory set-aside for rural areas. The total awarded was $2,336,496,202, with projects in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
